Description
This decorative plate features a portrait of Pocahontas in English attire, and the text “Pocahontas”. The portrait is based on an engraving by Simon Van de Passe in 1616, the only known image of her done in her lifetime.
Pocahontas, named Matoaka by her tribe, and Rebecca in her marriage to John Rolfe, was the favorite daughter of Wahunsonacock, paramount chief of the Powhatan confederacy. Click here to learn more about the life of Pocahontas.
